Radio's No Performance Tax Effort

No Performance Tax Effort Continues to Gain Momentum

The radio industry continues to gain momentum in its fight against the recording industry-proposed performance tax. Radio insiders have worked hard to educate Congress and the listening public about the negative impact of a performance tax. The public is listening, and with nearly 300 members of Congress signed onto radio’s anti-performance tax resolution – The Local Radio Freedom Act – it looks like Congress is listening too.

A performance tax would threaten the local radio stations that communities depend on. It would financially hamstring stations, stifle new artists and harm the listening public who rely on free local radio. The National Association of Broadcasters’ virtual advocacy center, NoPerformanceTax.org, continues to be a great vehicle for radio fans to get involved in the fight against this harmful legislation. The site enables radio insiders and the general public to spread campaign messages and reach members of Congress with advocacy tools and resources. Since the launch of the site, more than 31,000 emails have been sent to members of Congress and 40,000 anti-performance tax spots have been aired across the country. Nearly 28,000 fans have become social networking advocates for the cause as well. And the result? The Local Radio Freedom Act now has the support of 261 cosponsors in the House of Representatives and 27 cosponsors in the Senate.

Momentum is on our side, but the fight isn’t over yet. NAB is adding a new tool to NoPerformanceTax.org to help radio fans make their voices heard. The new petition feature will allow listeners to sign a petition urging their members of Congress to oppose the performance tax.

Visit NoPerformanceTax.org to find out how you can get involved. Download spots. Send a letter to your representatives in Congress. Join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter. Help keep the momentum going.
